FernPrint is made for looking at pictures, not for watching the people who look at them. This page lists everything the site collects, why, and for how long. It is short because the list is short.
When you read
Reading requires no account and sets no cookies. We do not run analytics, advertising, tracking pixels or third-party scripts. We do not build profiles of readers.
Like almost every website, our web server keeps standard access logs: your IP address, the page you requested, your browser’s user agent and the time. We use them only to keep the site secure and running, for example to investigate abuse or errors. The logs are rotated and deleted after about two weeks.
When you leave a reply
A reply stores the name you enter and the text of your reply. We do not ask for an email address. Replies wait for a moderator; approved replies are shown publicly under the story, and replies that are never approved are deleted automatically after 30 days.
When you write to us
The contact form collects your name, email address, the topic you choose and your message. We use them only to read and answer your message or handle your request. Contact messages are deleted automatically after 90 days.
IP addresses and spam
When you send a reply or a contact message, the site briefly checks your IP address to limit how many messages can be sent in a short time. This happens in memory only. The IP address is not stored in the site’s database.
Cookies
Readers get no cookies at all. The only cookie the site sets is a session cookie for FernPrint administrators while they are signed in to moderate.
Other services your browser contacts
- Google Fonts. Our typefaces are loaded from fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com. Your browser sends Google your IP address and browser details when it fetches them.
- Unsplash. The photographs on our home page are loaded from Unsplash’s image service, images.unsplash.com, which receives the same kind of request information.
Images inside stories are hosted on FernPrint itself, unless a writer links to an image elsewhere. The site is served over HTTPS with certificates from Let’s Encrypt.
Writers
Invited writers’ profiles show what they choose to publish: a name, portrait, bio, optional website and location, and their stories. Writers can ask for any post or their whole profile to be removed.
Your requests
You can ask to see, correct or delete information we hold about you, such as a reply you left or a message you sent. Use the contact page and choose Privacy request. Give us enough detail to find it, such as the story and the name you used. We may ask a question to confirm the request is yours.
Changes
If what we collect changes, we will update this page and the date at the top before the change takes effect.
